Q&A
What's the hardest thing you've ever done (physically or mentally)?
I’ve done a lot of hard things mentally and physically in training so it’s hard to pick one moment. However, I’d say being 6 points shy of qualifying for the CrossFit Games in 2018 was a hard moment for me in my CrossFit career. It was also something that really fueled me the following year!
What motivates you to do what you do?
I’m very internally competitive with myself and want to be the best that I can be in everything I do.
How do you define success?
I think success comes from all the preparation and the hard work prior to a final task. When you have done every thing in your control to be successful and you have surrounded yourself with great people, success will find its way to you.
What are your hobbies (or professions), outside of CrossFit?
I’m a high school math, science and physical education teacher. Outside of CrossFit and my work, I love playing or watching all sports! I’m definitely a huge sports fan!
What first introduced you to CrossFit?
I had just graduated from the University of Wisconsin and had just been released from the National team program in hockey so I was looking for something new and challenging to repurpose my competitiveness. I was now on my own for training and that’s when I found CrossFit in 2013. I fell in love with it on day one.
What's your favorite competition moment to date?
I think my favorite competition moment was placing 2nd at the CrossFit Games in the sprint event. I really enjoyed the format of that event. It was a great way to end my first year at the CrossFit Games in front of my friends and family!
I also really enjoyed the experience I got during the Rogue Invitational this year. I was very happy with my finish!
What's something that you struggle with in CrossFit?
Double unders. It’s something so simple for a lot of people, but it’s given me lots of trouble over the years!
What advice would you give yourself when you first started CrossFit?
I wish I had focused more on Olympic lifting technique from the start. I’ve developed some habits that are harder to change, but I am looking forward to joining Cal Strength and the Barbell WOD programs!
