Tips on my Snatch?

Tips on my Snatch?

Hi there,

I have been introduced to Oly lifts about 10 months ago and I have had a number of issues with snatching, from not finishing the second pull to going under the bar. Although I have been snatching for 10 months, only recently the movement is coming together. Would appreciate any tips or feedback on my recent videos.

My max snatch: a not-so pretty at all snatch is 34.5kgs @ 50kgs BW. And I have been working on the lighters weights to drill the movement and getting comfy with going under the bar.

Today: http://youtu.be/VpHivozMgdA (24kgs)
Last week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM6XoYAeEVU (26kgs)
Five months ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPIn1UYsmzk (32kg)

I am probably can snatch 40kgs as I can overhead squat 40kgs, but technique-wise I am not mature enough for such a big lift yet...My goal is to snatch 40kgs by end of the year!

Appreciate any tips!

Re: Tips on my Snatch?

awesome! looks good to me although im no expert. starting position looks good and first pull looks good. you seem to initiate the second pull at the right spot. Just put some weight on the bar and attack the weight. Be really aggressive and focus on pulling/dropping under the bar fast. If theres enough weight on the bar sometimes you can see where your weak points are IF you are technically sound. When the weight is very light sometimes errors are hard to see

Re: Tips on my Snatch?

Thanks for the tips!

Yeah, I know the weight is a bit light, but whenever I go heavier and by that I mean 27kgs,  tongue  I can easily power snatch it, just don't have the confidence to go under the bar & you can see even if I go under the bar, I am slow, instead of in one swift/smooth movement.

But I am glad my pulling is right, that's where I mostly struggle to get the lift right!

Re: Tips on my Snatch?

i use to be scared to go under but you just have to go for it and be fearless. You can do so much more when you drop under the weight. If your overhead strength and bottom position is strong just be brave and go under or else you'll never realize how much better you can be. keep at it!

Re: Tips on my Snatch?

I had a a very weak OH position for the longest time, and worked it with a lot of mobility work and it was fine, until about 8 weeks ago I went heavy on a jerk and my back just went out, so I haven't done anything OH for about 6 weeks, but I have done some work recently. I have lost some strength, i.e. arms gets too shaky. for example, I was doing OH squats, although the weight is not an issue for my lower body, my upper body couldn't hold the bar for 5 reps straight.

I am slowly getting brave with going under the bar, really pushing for it! I want to snatch heavier, kinda stuck now for that reason only!
